The Netivot Shalom Biannual Retreat will be held on Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-24, 2009, at Camp Newman near Santa Rosa. The registration form includes everything you need to know about the registration process. We are excited to welcome special guest scholar, Rabbi Neil Gillman, a world-renowned conservative rabbi and professor at the Jewish Theology Seminary, whose writing and teaching focus on resurrection and immortality in Jewish tradition, the place of mythology in Jewish community, and interfaith dialogue.

At the retreat, you will enjoy a wide variety of educational, spiritual, recreational, artistic and social activities over the Memorial Day Weekend (from Friday 3 pm through Sunday 5 pm). This ultimate community building event is a wonderful opportunity for those of all ages and interests to get further immersed in our special community. Register early for the retreat with a $100/adult deposit (none needed for kids) to ensure that you get private housing/bath. The registration deadline to ensure a spot at the retreat, and to be eligible for the “pay what you can” fee option (subject to available funds), is April 17. You may spread out your fee payments over four months if you wish. We have also kept the regular registration fees low (1/3 less than Beth El’s retreat).
We encourage you to speak to the 190 folks who attended the 2007 retreat to learn what a special event this is, whether you wish to lay by the pool, go on a nature hike, study with world-class scholars, pray under the trees, sing and eat s’mores at the campfire, enjoy a holistic health class, take an art class, shmooze at happy hour, or just relax. If you have kids, you will have fun both with them (pool time!) and without them (fully-staffed youth program for ages 2-12 planned by Rabbi Bochner; evening “Shmira” babysitters). Teens will enjoy activities just for them (evening swim) as well as opportunities for paid staff time. And what’s more, there will be good vegetarian kosher food, Peet’s Coffee, and even It’s-Its ice cream. What could be better?
